    Tragically Hip

    Ch-check it out tonight:

    A-Yue, Taiwan's rebel rocker @ 8 p.m. Slims

    2. Latin Film Festival starts today at
    La Pena.

    3. Alternative pop rock band
Tragically Hip plays at the Fillmore tonight. Their name is cool, like Los Kung Fu Monkeys. Another rock band with a cool name is the Super Furry Animals.

My friends always talk about what name we would want for a cool's some we came up with:

  • Chikpeas (to be an extension of my friend's b-girl group)

  • Homer (from the cartoon, "The Iliad")

  • Holden (from "Catcher in the Rye")

  • Skiggs (a slang term we used in college for high maintenance girls)

  • Anybody else have ideal band names?

i always get a snicker out of the name "flogging molly" for some reason. sounds like a drink ;-)

i also wanted to mention that i've read your column often whenever i've gotten a chance to pick up a merc. it's great to read and hear about not just Asian artists or bands, but Asian American musicians who, from the diverse coverage of artists i've read about in your column, make up all spectrums of the musical world and are not anomalies :)

    hey there marian,

i know the name has already been taken by a band, but i find "audio adrenaline" to be quite a catchy title that makes me want to hear what they're all about.
